Does anyone know anything about the diving off of Port Orange/Daytona Beach...I'm going to be there for a couple of weeks (with the in-laws...boo!!!) and was thinking about doing a couple of charters.

Well... depends what your looking for, talk to Spruce Creek Scuba (LDS).

Most of the local divers are spearfishing. The only charter is Salty Dogs.
Most visitors prefer the 60' drift (checkout) dives of West Palm Beach (south about 2-3 hours).
Jupiter is closer, deeper, and less crowded.
45 mintues inland wil get you to a nice cavern (Blue Springs state park)
There's Disney's Epcot Living Seas ($125?)

The charter in New Smyrna is Sea Dogs. I dove with them once, good operation. We dove the Mindanao, a great wreck dive and I also shot a good size gag grouper on that wreck too if you're interested in that sort of thing.

While Sea Dogs is definitely spear friendly, I don't think it's as focused on that as some ops. I'm not a spearo (nothing against it, I'd just rather shoot things with my videocamera) and have always had a great experience on their boat. Friendly captain, DM's and owner. The Mindanao is a really fun wreck. I usually get there about 3 to 4 times a summer from up here in Jax.
