I'm an advanced diver who has done approx. 75 dives. However, I've never been to St. Thomas. Is the diving good there? Will I be disappointed after Belize, Roatan, etc. ?

Anyone knowledgeable about St. Thomas fill me in on the best deals for airfare, hotels, & diving. Thanks!

Barry,

There is a lot of really good diving in the USVI, and the BVI is also right there. My son was a diving instructor on St T for several years and we have a summer place there.

Try and contact "Blue Island Divers" (www.blueislanddivers.com) Check out the website and see if that is what you are looking for. Ask for Aitch and tell him Dante sent you. These guyes are great for custom diving in the US/BVI and they can take you to dive spots off the beaten path. The also have tec/wreck diving if you are interested.

They can also help you with hotels if you like. Hope this helps, enjoy the ride.

Diving on St. Thomas is good to very good. There is some beach diving at Coki Beach, two small reefs at 40-45' and Coki Beach Dive Shop is right down the street. http://www.cokidive.com/

There are some nice wrecks around the island, and most of the shops go to these.

One of the best wrecks is the RMS Rhone, which is is in the BVI but reached from St. Thomas...Chris Sawyer's Dive Shop goes there every Friday. They have a couple of locations and REALLY try to make you feel welcome. Call them and the'll take care of everything for you: from local diving, the Rhone (don't miss this), help with good dining locations, equipment etc. http://www.sawyerdive.vi/

Many airlines fly direct to St. Thomas and the airport is modern (Caribbean scale) clean and the people helpful. Housing can be luxurious and upscale to bare bones...your choice. I've never had trouble finding a place except during the major winter holidays and Carnival
