Looking to do some cavern (NOT CAVE !!) dives on our own, near the Akumal/Tulum/COBA area. We have experience, a car, and our own gear. Need tanks and weights, but do not want to do expensive DM led dive shop trips.

Does anyone know the best cenotes for DIY diving in the area, and where to get tank/weight rentals?

TNX.

Hi Rick,

You didn't mention in your post if you are Cavern Certified or not. Most of the land owners will not allow divers without at least a Cavern Cert to dive unless they are with a Cave Certified guide. They just don't want to be responsible for anyone dying on their property.

I frequently take cavern divers for tours between cave dives in the area, and several of the Cenotes are now checking for certification cards if they do not recognize you. There are lots of places to rent tanks and weights in Akumal and Tulum, but access to the best cenotes may harder to come by.

No, not cavern certified, although I have done several carern dives in florida.

Anyone know of a private gide that could drag us around this weekend, without paying "shop" prices?

Average cost for 2 tank cenote dive (2 different locations) including transportation, tanks, weights and guide (some incl lunch, some don't) runs $110-125 pp.

If you aren't cavern certified or intro to cave then you do have to use a guide.

Cheaper alternative is to go to Hidden Worlds. Group tours. Several scheduled daily. $50 one dive, $90 2 tanks (per person). Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park Yucatan Mexico Riviera Maya
