I'm not a fan of the extremely long laces in the DUI rock boots. Has any one just cut them and tied them like shoes? Any other suggestions?

The recommendation from DUI is to trim them.

Snug the laces, cinch up the slider, take one wrap around the ankle. secure the velcro tab in the heel tab, tie a knot just after the tab, trim off the excess.

Seems kinda dumb to me. Think I'll just wear the rock boots from my old whites DS.

In the past when I had Rockboots I had good luck with 1/8 inch bungee (black of course:D) and the lace keepers that cam with the Rockboots.

I had no problems cutting the excess (my feet are comically small, so I had a BUNCH of excess :D). I used a lighter to flame the cut laces.

Never had a problem in 2 years with the laces.
