American tourist dies scuba diving in East End
A 70-Year-old U.S. tourist died on Friday following a diving excursion in East End.

Reports from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), are that the incident occurred just before 9:00 am when the elderly woman got into difficulties while scuba diving off East End.

According to the RCIPS, CPR was attempted on the victim, but she was pronounced dead after she was transported to Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance.

This is the fourth water-related death involving a US tourist since the start of the year.

Sad. Thank you for posting.

Unfortunate, but I'd rather die on a trip than in a nursing home. I take many precautions, carry a PLB hiking, diving, everywhere, and I remind my daughter how she can activate help at DAN to get me back from any trip, whatever condition without significant costs. I just spent a week roaming the wilds of Big Bend NP, I am gearing up for another camping week next month, Cozumel diving later in the summer, etc. I'll keep going as long as I can and hope I die on an adventure someday.

When I dove in GCM, the operator said that cruise ship divers are the most likely to have "problems". I don't think an east end diver op had a cruise ship diver. I agree. Go doing what you love, not confined to a bed.

Not much in the way of detail from the story. Very sad. Thanks for posting. I would guess more info is circulating among the dive professionals working on the island.
