Just bought my first set of scuba tanks. Blue Steel Faber LP 85 Steel Tank Hot Dipped Galvanized BLS-LG85SDVB what’s everyone’s opinion on them. Would love to hear you alls opinion. I did some googling going on random forums, groups etc.. those are so most recommended ones that I read people saying one can’t go wrong with them.
But if I am wrong please let me know. I’m here to learn.

Anyone else felt uneasy buying their first set of tanks or is it just me? Kinda wish renting steels were as common as renting aluminum’s.

I know it’s rare but couldn’t help not look into stories of tanks explosions, injuries and what not. Definitely babying those tanks and taking care of them. Anyone else did the same or felt the same when buying their first set?

Steel 85’s are nice tanks, you can’t go wrong with them.
The only other tank I could recommend depending on your air needs would be a 3442 E7-100, that’s also steel.
Tank explosions aren’t really a thing with steel tanks. That’s more of an old bad alloy aluminum thing.

Good tanks, especially if you can get cave fills.

I'm trying to understand: You've already purchased them, correct? And now you're asking for opinions? Or is it that you're considering purchasing them?

I already purchased them, but asking opinions about them still

You bought the worst tanks possible. Because I'm a nice guy though, I'll help you out and buy them from you for half what you paid for them. I'm kidding of course. You bought a really great set of tanks. Here's the pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Hot dipped galvanized, durable finish, much better than painted.
2). If a shop will fill them to 3k, then you've got roughly 95 cf of gas
3). If a shop fills them only to 2.6k, then you've still got a little more than a full AL80 (fyi, a full AL 80 is actually 77.8 cf)
4). They get a little floaty when empty, but still about 1.5 lbs heavier than an empty AL80

Cons: pretty much none

Enjoy your tanks!

The only issue with LP tanks is finding somewhere that will fill them above service pressure. I have only LP tanks - 85s for OC sidemount and 50s for CCR bailout. Here in the Midwest, I know of a few places that will fill to 3000. It’s rare to get a cave fill to 3500-3800.

I live in GA, but Dive in FL regularly, I don’t know of any good dive spots in GA yet but probably something I should look up. Almost everyone in FL fills LP to 3000 or more by default unless I specifically ask them not to I would think. I don’t know of a reason to ask them not to.
