Ankle weights are just trim weights.

They are not tools from the devil.

If you want to try them then try them. If it works, great. If its the best solution then great.

If it doesn't sell them and look for another solution.

Like I said, training wheels. I have used them too. Now I use them on students. Not on their ankles, but to attach a little extra weight to a tank or D ring. They are great for that.

Rent a pair of Turtle Fins (XS Scuba, I believe) at your LDS and see how well that brings your feet down.

I have the opposite problem and sometimes wish I could have a lighter fin. If the heavier fin doesn't do the trick, try adjusting the tank position on your back also, see how that works.

If you fail to solve your problem with heavier fins and repositioning the tank, consider moving to a wing/backplate system... or a long chat with your instructor on more ideas or perhaps flaws in your buoyancy/trim/kicking.

Let's all repeat our positions until the other "side" gives in....

Divers who wear ankle weights are better looking, get more dates, have better dive skills, and know how to party. I have proof....
