An update for the clean-up.

If you can help, plan to be at the Rum Island Park at Saturday, September 29 from 10AM to 2PM or whenever you can spare the time. Rum Island Park is on the north side of the Sante Fe about halfway between US 27 and SR 47. If you can bring a kayak, canoe, or small boat, please do so. You can clean up on the river and its banks or you can bring your gear(and a flag) and pick up trash on the river bottom. Also, bring sunblock and bugspray. We will provide bags, scales, lunch, refreshments, etc.

We have 8 committed volunteers and another 10 or so who are interested. If you are interested in helping the Sante Fe, email me at pr@safecavediving.com or email Rob Neto at conservation@safecavediving.com. If you can not make it on the 29th, go to http://tinyurl.com/83no2c2 and see if you can help one of the other organizations/groups who have a clean-up day scheduled.

We had a successful day at Rum Island Park on the Sante Fe yesterday as part of the Great Suwannee River Clean-up. Our efforts were concentrated on the park's river banks and Rum Island. In this area, we picked up 100+ pounds of garbage so one can only image the amount of trash in the rest of the river. Thanks to Rob Neto for organizing the clean-up and to the volunteers who helped. The river(s) clean-up will extend into November 2012. If you are interested, go to http://tinyurl.com/83no2c2 and see if you can help another organization or group.
