ok im 16 stone and have a 5mill suit,
i cant remember how much weight i need to dive in the sea.
I want to buy my own weights now.
Anyone help?

From what I can tell, 16 stone is equivalent to 224 lbs.

With a 5 mil, and assuming an AL80 tank, I think 2.25 stone should be enough to get you down without being dangerous, and hopefully you can peel off some lead once you can do a proper buoyancy check.

Good Luck :)

It is impossible to tell without getting in the water and actually checking.

Check with your LDC or a buddy to borrow some weights to perform a buoyancy check. This will provide you a very close amount of weights to use. Your Instructor can work with you on this skill. Where are you from?

Just out side of london England.
The main problem is that I only dive on holiday - and mostly with a hire suit.
I was looking for a starting point - how much weight i should put on at the start. I know i need to do a bouance chack at the end of my dive with an empty tank.
But that doesnt help when im kitting up for the first dive with a new suit.
Any one got a rule of thumb - an estimate - so i know where to start?

Do a weight check at the beginning of the dive, then add enough weight to compensate to the air in the full tank.
