I used to try and adjust my weights on the first dive of the day and realized that was a waste - too much trapped air in and on gear. Now I rely on the weights I record in my log book. I also adjust weights after safety stop if I felt over or underweighted during the safety stop. My wife is used to me handing her weights on our safety stops.
