Yesterday was an unexpected treat for an exceptional freediving and spearfishing student!

Kyle Barnell flew in from Greenwood, SC and quickly took to some pretty serious freediving, often dropping to 45' for 1:00 to 1:25 minutes, and he kept it up all day until 6 pm!

The visibility was very weird... a hazy 5' for the top 20', but it broke open under the blanket revealing about 20' the rest of the way to the bottom. It was overcast and choppy, but later laid down. The current was pretty strong most of the day, but only on the top! The late afternoon tide brought greener water up from the south, with 10' to 12' of vis, but it pushed out the cleaner bottom water, making it hard to see with the low sun.

Kyle is at home with a speargun in his hand... and used both the Wong 50" reef gun and the 50" hybrid, perfect for the moderate vis.
He never missed, bagging 3 nice gags including the largest, a 10 pounder!

Here's the happy new freediver with his prey!
