Thanks to all for the info but we've changed our plans and are heading to Honduras instead and plan to visit Cayos Cochinos. Hopefully the info will be useful to others though.

Having lived on Big Corn for two years and making regular trips back and forth from Big to Little Corn when I was doing guiding for snorkeling trips, this is the info I can offer you:
The worst months for weather and crossing and diving are November, December and January. High winds and seas. The seas and weather tend to calm in February. February, March, April, and May usually offer wonderful conditions. The rainy season hits June. The rain makes diving conditions not ideal and viz goes way down, but the seas usually aren't that rough and crossing is usually not a problem. You can always check NOAA buoy reports. 83.6 W 12.5 N if I remember correctly. The ride across is really not that bad! It's bumpier going to Little Corn because you're going against the swell. If you're really worried about making that flight, stay on Big Corn for the night. Try Ike's place on the North End. He's a wonderful host and reasonably priced!!
