ah here is the thread with local terms.

i made a copy paste here into one. guys add to it and try to keep your posts limited to terms and terminologies we use here around the P.I. , local dialaects are welcome. i sure would like to pick-up a few southern terms. gi hambal kita !

toma = drink and lots of it...hic

SPOON

hindi = don't/ not

bir nga = 1 beer please

bir/ beer/ pale = san miguel pale pilsen
light = san mig light
dry = san mig super dry
strong = san miguel strong ice
red horse = extra strong beer
mani = peanuts
sisig = sizzling minced pork wonder that's amazing with beer... (trust me!)

bahura : underwater reef / mountain , one of the best places to dive
Laot : sea ward
Habagat : South west winds
(calm sea on the east side of the island, rough on west side)

Amihan : North Easterly winds
(calm seas on the west side of the island, makes the pacific side for Surfing)

pusit : squid, cuttlefish
Pating : shark
bangka : dive boat (hehehhehe)
bangkero : dive boat captain
(but its the DM and the Instructor that gets to Boss around)
bubu : fish traps deep underwater, (nasty piece of contraption, very simple yet very effective !!! )
Tulong : Help
Tubig : water
Dagat : sea
Alat : salty
Sea Urchin : ah this crawlie has lots of coloquial names .....

Mabuhay : just don't use this , smile na lang , hehehhehehehe

"patay" = dead
"bumula" = bubbled
"muntik na" = almost
"inuman na...." = no more diving

ba – not translatable but used as a question marker
naman – also; too; again
kuwan - so-and-so, watchamacallit
ano? - what?
ano ba? - what's your problem?
buhay - alive
buhay pa - still alive
aray! - ouch!
bakit? – why?
lang – only; just
wala – nothing
wala lang – just nothing
siyempre! - of course!

pupunta kami para sa pagsisid ngunit gusto ko po malaman kung sino po yung mga animal at inseckto dito na tao, na wa.... Salmat ....

But this weekend I happened to be a little "lasing" which led me to grab the guitar from the guitarista and sing 'Harana'. And after I got two girls loving me for it. :) Then I rode away on my horse into the sunset.
 
I am here in San Francisco now studying your Tagalog lessons (and dreaming about diving in PI), but my Illocano girlfriend keeps teaching me 'naughty' words, this is rough!
