Have you ever even set foot in the Maldives? I ask this as it really sounds like you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
The resorts will always be safe and insulated from the local population so there is no need for you to 'fear the long-beards'- however there is a serious need for you to educate yourself IMO.
