I try not to get too excited about these kinds of posts any more. To a non-diver (the main audience of these types of publications) a deep dive, wreck dive, cave dive, drift dive, ice dive, etc is dangerous. To those of us with the proper training, we can almost do them in our sleep. The divers with the qualifications to dive any dive are either exploring (and writing their own papers/books) or teaching and aren’t out submitting guest posts ideas to publications. So now I just look at them, check off the dives I’ve done, add the others to the list of to-do dives, and move on.

OK, let's get a grip on the reality of this site.

People make money from the Internet when people go to their sites. The more they can get people to go to their sites, the more money they make from advertising. If you go down this road yourself, you will find all sorts of people who will offer training on how to make money by getting people to go to your sites. One way is to make a list that people will perceive to be provocative. It does not have to be accurate. It just has to be a list related to a topic that will attract viewers. In fact, if it is inaccurate, it will attract more viewers because of the controversy it will arouse. Putting this list on ScubaBoard got its originator a real bonus.

You will see things like this on FaceBook a lot. Those of you who are FaceBook devotees should be aware that another moneymaker is creating those pictures with captions that you just have to share with the world. "Share this if you have a great mother-in-law" is just another money-making ploy. The people who make those things actually have competitions to see what platitudinous tripe gets the most shares. More importantly, if you check the FaceBook settings, you will find that when you do things like sharing those items, they often get some access to your personal information.
