I think that is what I am going to do.
i have been looking at the powershots. My dive trip is not until may, so I will save a little extra and just keep looking for deals, like dell, or maybe amazon, you never know.

Adding macro's, lenses, etc., right now that is beyond what I want to do. Once I get use tot he camera, taking pics underwater, etc, I will be adding them. Right now, I just want to be able to get a decent pic, simple and easy, to show off to my non diving friends. The first time I went diving, was in Cabo for a resort course. I had an underwater disposable camera with me (ya I know, but at the time I didn't know any different). Pics turned out dark and murky. Even when snorkeling, they turned out crap.

midwestdvr:
The canon a610 is a great camera. However, if you are planning on using any add-on lenses (wide angle, macro lenses), I suggest you look at another model. The canon housing will not accept lenses and the only housing available that will take add-on lenses is the ikelite housing and it is pricier than the canon housing. Just something to consider.
Actually Sea and Sea makes a conversion lens adaptor for nearly all Canon housings.
