The New Zealand Freediving Depth National Championship is being held this coming weekend in Lake Taupo.

Rumour has it that Dave Mullins, one of the deepest men in the world (125m Constant Weight dive - but in the warm waters of Kalamata, Greece last year) will be competing.

Results will be posted here: DepthNats15 | Freediving New Zealand and on the AIDA NZ Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Aida-NZ/112670315431274

Here is a video put together during last years comp.

I won't be there but several of my friends will be (and some are in the clip above from last year).

Results for Day 1 (Friday) are in. The two Johns stuffed up their surface protocols. John Wright did the core SP fine but then dipped his airways below the surface while looking for his tag within the 30 sec (I think) that he needed to keep them clear and John Pengelly did a clean 60m FIM dive but thought he was still in training mode and "pretended" to remove his mask rather than actually doing it! No doubt he is frustrated.

Results for today (Saturday) will be out once the judges have reviewed the bottom camera footage.

Another frustrating day for John P in particular with what would have been a clean, deep dive if it wasn't for a pesky snorkel! Good Personal Bests for others though - especially Phil C.
