    Hi all,

Was just curious if anyone had tried the 8mm fisheye for the nex in a dome underwater. I am debating getting the housing and I am attempting to pan out all the little details.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Got the Samyang 8mm F2.8 a week back and just did a pool test. Focuses well when set to F8, focus 0.3m within the 4.33" dome for objects a metre or more away. Anything closer than 0.6m will become out of focus. Here's a pool shot.

I also tried the Sigma 19mm within the dome - it's very sharp for objects a metre away, and looks sharp at 0.6m too. Anything closer is out of focus.

How does this compare with the Fish eye converter on the 16mm?

I don't have one to compare, but my impression is that the 16mm has quite a bit of chromatic and edge distortion on the nex7.

I've been using the kit 16 mm with both the fisheye and the wideangle adapters. Yes the is a lot of chromic distortion. I can repair a lot of it with Lightroom 4. However, overall image quality is disappointing. Getting much better color, contrast and sharpness with the Sigma 19mm.

Here are some shots unedited using the Samyang/Rokinon 8mm. Notice the anitiflare shroud is just visible esp on surface shots.

Do you still have full controls of the lens in the housing? I only ask because there is an aperture control ring on the lens.

Nope, in a dome port, I just used min focus distance 0.3 and F8 in order to focus on the virtual image. F5.6 might work too, but I have just left it on F8. You can turn on focus peaking to have an idea of the focused areas.
