Sometimes I wonder how people wake up in the morning with all that guilt that must be festering inside them... being part of the human race and all...

The easiest way to live with it is to simply project all that guilt over onto somebody else.

Kind of the Hollywood activist syndrome ---- telling us we need to cut back to one sheet of toilet paper, while they continue to drive Hummers and fly private jets. :)

I've always found it amusing how many people become anti-development, but only after THEY have finished building THEIR home in paradise.

With regard to this particular thread hijack;

why was it a hijack when the links all included the sinister intentions of the US military?

I found it interesting while on Maui recently how many anti Oahu comments I overheard. There is a real sentiment there..worth taking a look at. Of course they never tell the specialists who come over for one day a month to scram...
Has there ever been an honest assessment of the pros as well as the cons of being in a state that includes Oahu?

yea, I am not swallowing that kool-aid either. I consider myself an environmentalist and I think we make more headway not polarizing people with the holier than thou number. I haven't made up my mind about this ferry business, a lot will depend on how the numbers shake out if it fails and if I can see that there was a premeditated plan for the taxpayers to sunsidize a private economic venture and if in fact whales become a casuality.

New ferry story.

The Alakai is expected to arrive in Kahului at 2 p.m. Saturday, with vehicles that were stranded on Oahu. The 350-foot vessel will leave Kahului Harbor at 3 p.m. with its load of vehicles left behind on Maui when the ferry service was abruptly halted by a court order on Aug. 27.

It looks like a hearing Monday at 9am will be broadcast live at www.akaku.org

In many cases, that sentiment is an inferiority complex. It's also a sentiment I've heard from transplanted mainlanders whose only time on Oahu was spent at the airport and in Waikiki.

Either way, they need to get over it and appreciate what they have instead of trying to prove they're better than us.

The Superferry does have federal loan guarantees, so if the project bombs it'll be on the shoulders of the nation's taxpayers. Take that for what you will - personally I have no problem with it, since it's supposed to provide a public service.

IMO the whale population can surely handle one more vessel in addition to the hundreds that already travel interisland. It's surprising to me that whales are the priority when our terrestrial plants and animals are the species likely to suffer from increased interisland travel.

I think all the outer islands are afraid that Dog the Bounty Hunter and his crew are going to immortalize them on tv since they'll be able to venture all over the state with the Super Ferry. I wonder if they'll discuss that fact tomorrow! :)

LOL, are you serious?

cause I believe anything, ya know.

I love DOG

LOL I'm just kidding! Dog is awsome though. Do you ever see him cruising around Oahu?
Perhaps you live in another part but anything is possible! :) I wonder how that hearing went...

The navy/army has had two HSV's (military version of super ferry, same company in fact) here in the islands for oh a decade or so now. Both have made regular runs to all the islands.
Also the military makes arrangements with commercial transport companies to transport military personnel and gear but it is generally only used during times of war. Most of the airlines and cargo ship companies have these arrangements with the military.
