Also check out www.craigslist.org - I found everything from apartments, used dive gear, dive buddies and my wife there. There's usually someone wanting to go diving in the activities section.
Wow! Did you find your wife on craigslist too? I found mine at the airport in Narita, Japan! I was living in Florida then and had never discovered diving. That's how I ended up in San Francisco.
