The Grand Rapids Scuba Club will be attending the opening day of Haigh Quarry in Northern Illinois. The date is April 2nd and we will be car pooling from GR Saturday morning and arriving back in GR Saturday night. Haigh Quarry is known as the Caribbean of the Midwest. This former limestone quarry is now host to one of the best diving locations in the Midwest. This is an old quarry with depths of 85 feet, sheer cliffs, and rock piles, as well as a large aquatic population that includes Sunfish, Blue Gill, Catfish, Bass, and Northern Pike. The north end of the quarry is relatively shallow at about 25-30 feet deep. This area contains some left over mining equipment to see, the rest of the quarry is around 50-60 feet deep with the south east corner having the "deep" hole at 85 Feet. There are changing rooms, a pavilion (with fire place) and they now have an air fill station. The entrance fee is $20.00, and $10.00 for non-divers.

Please remember to bring a photo ID as well as your certification card. You will be required to show them, as well as fill out a release form before diving. If you are under the age of 18, please remember to bring your parent or guardian.

For more information, please don't hesitate to email the Grand Rapids Scuba Club or Haigh Quarry. We hope you will join us for our first dive adventure for the 2011 dive season.

Hey Jim,

It was nice meeting you as well!! I was one of the wet ones and it wasn't to bad but we could have done without the wind. If you are ever up this way email us and we would love to take you diving in our neck of the woods.

Had a great time diving with the Grand Rapids Scuba Club. Thank you for organizing this fun event.
