I am a PADI only instructor affiliated with a LDS and I have Gale Smith, now Witherspoon and Associates. The insurance underwriter is Lloyd's of London. IMO you can't beat that!

The price in the post immediately above is the current pricing with Witherspoon. Be prepared to be cross-examined as he's very particular on who he insures with regards to experience, etc.

It looks like John Witherspoon IV is the one to go with. He claims that Risk Management @ PADI have been accepting the policies he's been writing for years with no problems.

However, as Diver Lori indicated, he IS particular about who he accepts. Basically he does not like to do independent Instructors (those not directly affiliated with a dive shop) unless they have a good track record. In addition, he tends to steer clear of new Instructors.

BTW, the NEW application goes up on the website tomorrow. The one that is online now is not exactly to his specifications.

Thanks for the input everyone! :)

Take care,

We put in our Instructor Insurance application to John Witherspoon & Associates (http://www.scubainsurance.net/). Our paperwork should be coming through shortly.

PADI Risk Management has confirmed that that the policy written through John Witherspoon IV is acceptable.

This saves us almost $400 in Instructor insurance this year!
