My wife and I just returned home from our trip to CR. We spent 2 days diving with Summer-Salt Dive Center. Patrick, the owner, is a Swiss feller who speaks 4 languages. I talked to him via Facebook prior to the trip. The captain and crew were great and knew the area well.

The first day we did a local dive to a place they call Monkey Head. We saw plenty fish, eels, octopus, sharks and rays. The water temp was 84 degrees at about 70'. Visibility was probably around 20-30ft. The seas weren't too bad. It's the rainy season and the storms last week brought in some larger seas than normal. The second day we dove Catalina Island. We got into a group of White Tips, about 6, which I was able to get some great video of. The surge was pretty strong. I don't know if that's normal or not for that area, but not unbearable. We hit the thermocline at about 85'. It wasn't too bad though. The water above it was still around 84. We saw some dolphins on the way to the island and two sea turtles trying to make baby sea turtles.

We stayed at a condo in Las Palmas. I have to say that I was very impressed with the security, cleanliness and the amount of Gringos in the area. The food in Coco was absolutely awesome. We had a dinner at Suely's, a French restaraunt, and at Papagayo Steakhouse. The rest we ate at the condo. They also have good ice cream at the casino.

All in all, excellent vacation. I can't wait to go back.

Alibi...

Even though I really enjoyed the diving there, Rincon, Puerto Rico is still my favorite dive location.
