Diver drowns off Popplestone Ledge » Breaking news » GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA
Late Monday morning, a crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester responded a garbled radio call for help off Popplestone Ledge.
The call said a diver was down, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer Jeff Quinn.
A Coast Guard crewfound the diver in a boat with other divers who were preforming cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The Coast Guard crew took over, performing CPR, transferring the man to Coast Guard boat and returning to the station.
Gloucester paramedics transported the man to Addison Gilbert Hospital.
The diver, who name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the hosptial Monday. Police have notified the next of kin. According to police reports, the diver had drowned. No further information was available.
Gloucester police and State Police troopers are investigating.
