Scuba Shack in Rocky Hill, Conn. – established in 1977 – is accepting applications from qualified, self-motivated individuals to work full-time in southern New England’s top PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center as dive center manager and instructor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a divemaster or instructor to gather valuable experience in the industry. Responsibilities include: In-store sales, eBay sales, marketing, dive instruction, first aid and CPR instruction, class scheduling, leading local shore and boat dives, organizing and leading group trips to warm-water destinations in Florida, the Bahamas, Mexico and the Caribbean, compressor maintenance, mixing gas including Enriched Air Nitrox and Trimix, and dive equipment maintenance.

The applicant, if selected, can expect a reasonable hourly wage during a 90-day probationary training period, with added income from teaching PADI courses after completion of a training review with the owner and training coordinator.

Minimum Requirements

  • Certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor with current credentials and liability insurance.

Preferred Experience

  • Customer sales of diving equipment and training classes.
  • Certified AquaLung repair technician, or certification from at least one regulator manufacture.
  • Experience, and a passion for, diving in and around New England or similar locations.
  • Experience with Global Underwater Explorers (GUE) training programs and the DIR holistic approach to dive training.
  • Configuration and fitting of back-plate and wing systems.
  • Fitting dry suits and wet suits for customers.
  • Familiar with compressor operations including mixing Enriched Air Nitrox.
  • You should also live near, or be willing to move to, the greater Hartford area and have dependable transportation.

We are unable to provide funding for relocation, and applicants should have the right to work in the United States. Apply online or send your resume/CV, cover letter and documentation detailing your training, certifications and experience via postal mail to:
