Hey Alison, the cold water diving isn't so bad!! Believe it or not, the only thing that you will notice is that you buddy's lips are blue :).

obtw...
Welcome Johnny Qwest! (are you alluding to an affiliation with the phone company?) How's the diving on the Oregon coast?

I say anticlimaticaly only because it seems so much more worldly to be English, than an Oregon yankee.("You only live twice Mr. Bond")

Hey scubakat. No phone company affiliation just nostalgic about a childhood cartoon. As far as the diving off the Oregon coast, I'll have to defer to one of the more experienced Pacific Northwest board members as I'm just now starting my certification(EEEEK a newbie). Actually from my research I've heard the coast is hit and miss depending on the time of year. The real treasures are the bays, Hood canal, Puget Sound, and the outrageously beautiful B.C.. I sure am looking forward to finding out though and telling everybody-add nauseam.

Lol large diver. Did you like the show too? Bandit, leave large divers leg alone. :)

Regards, JQ

Hey Hey JQ... Let me know if you make it up north, as I am near the shore of the puget sound. That's a bummer about the coast, I love it from the surface!

I sure will scubakat. I'll be doing my OW dives at hoodsport. After that I'll probably continue to dive with the beginner classes until I'm comfortable, but it wont be much longer that I'll want to spread my wings and meet new people and dive new places. Looking forward to diving wit cha.
Regards, JQ

Trying to pass yourself off as a brit there Johnny?
I should warn you that you would be better sticking to your own country. There's already too many of them around already..lol (sorry maggs).
anyways..welcome and happy halibut hunting.. hope you don't walk around like a marrionette...F.A.B.

Hey Scubakat and all cold water divers....

The thought of diving in freezing water is very foreign to me, but at the same time I'm fascinated by what is actually to be found in cold water. Obviously there is no coral and the marine life must be completely different to what I see over in this part of the world. I'd love to hear some of your descriptions.

A question about wearing a dry suit... isn't part of your face uncovered and therefore exposed to the water? Doesn't it get very.... ummm.... numb and/or buddy-blue-lips? Brrrrr......

:p

Hi there K! To tell you the truth I rarely notice that I am cold & I am diving in a wetsuit for now. There's just so much to look at & as a new diver, to keep track of, that I truely don't notice the cold!

These are not my photos, but they do show the variety of life you see here.

Kate - thanks a lot for those URLS. And WOW is what I have to say! I don't know why I thought that cold water diving would be dark and murky... with not much colour - was I wrong or what?? :)

I'm just too used to diving with a shorty or, as I did last time, with no wetsuit at all and seeing all the vibrant colours of tropical waters. I would love the chance to dive in your area one day. (I can only dream of that at the moment.)

Cheers

Johnny,

Yes -- the original Johnny Qwest cartoon was my all time favorite. I have to admit that at age 36 I would probably still watch it if it came on......

All time favorite episode -- the "electronic monster" that they painted....

Again -- welcome!
