I got a bungee necklace and enjoy having the octo near my mouth. Just gotta let your buddy know to take your main incase of a air emergency. I question I have is now do you need a longer hose for the main.

If you're going to bungee your backup around your neck, you need a couple of things.

First, you need a longer hose for your primary. Sharing air with a 'standard' length primary really, really sucks. You have two good options for a primary hose:

40-inch, routed under your right arm
5-7' hose, routed under your right arm/right waist belt, across your chest,
and behind your neck. This is my favorite option

Second, you need a shorter hose for your backup. A long octo hose will be way too long and get in the way of your primary. You might be able to use your old primary hose for the backup.
