If the second stage is an adjustable you might consider, not specifically a recommendation, setting the seat to orifice such that when the knob is fully out there is the barest leakage (not free flow). In that way when the knob is turned out there is very little force on the seat to orifice set. Of course, when diving, you will need to turn the knob in about a half turn or so.
 
My primary is done like that. Can't complain about flow adjustment ever, since you can dial out until it free flows.

My necklace is the opposite. Err towards too tight.
 
Then the cat sleeps on them after tossing them about.

Yeah keeps em warm, and then you use the left over bits to finish the last lot the cat slept on and tossed about
