Hawker Aircraft Recovery
On Nov. 4, the husband and wife team of Patrick Madden and Annette Spaulding will return to the NSF to give a presentation and slide show on their efforts in recovering another historical aircraft from a Canadian lakebed.
In 1943 a Hawker Hurricane aircraft (precursor to the Spitfire that won the Battle of Britain) on a Commonwealth Training Program mission disappeared in a remote area near a training base in Chicoutimi, northern Quebec, Canada. Recovery teams searched and spotted a hole in the ice of a frozen lakebed. They attempted retrieving it with grappling hooks without success. The war effort was a priority. This is the story of Patrick and Annette's painstaking preparations in the search, discovery dives and salvage of this historic aircraft.
Presentation will follow a brief meeting.
Meeting starts @ 8 pm
Social hour starts @ 7 pm, on site bar and grill is "Cash Only"
