Anyone have experience with this light? It would likely see use as a primary for those times when I don't feel like taking my 21 watt HID out. It would even be tempting to take it on our diving vacations (Hawaii mainly now that we're on the west coast). I have no exposure to a 3 watt LED dive light so I'm going on the assumption that brighter is better. For the price I could get a handful for 3 watt LED backups locally. I'm anticipating that it would quickly end up as part of my wife's kit, so bonus points for a bright light that isn't attached to a cannister and is vacation friendly. Thoughts?

...that Salvo 9 Watt was on my short list until recently...however, now I'm holding out for the new Oxycheq rechargable Raider III handheld light scheduled to be released about July 1 (there's a TON of info on it on the Decostop board.) If the Oxycheq light is as good as advertised, I'm getting 2 or 3 of those as primary/back ups dual purpose lights...and then maybe a Raider V can light from Ozycheq due out this fall as my super-duper primary.

Thanks for the info, Karl. I may end up holding out as well...

One of my instructors dives with Salvo's Handheld 10W HID (the predecessor to the 9W LED) and loves it, and one of our local divers just got the 12W LED can light and it is truly an amazing light. A very solid design and great light pattern. Kudos to Salvo and the work they have been doing.

@ Sprange

If you want only to have a concentrated light point with high brightness, i think some 3W LED lamp is enough. But if want to see the colors under water on a bigger area, you need a lamp with more light power and a better light distribution.

Hi Michael,

I had a chance to dive in a group that included a 3W LED 'backup' light (it was used as a primary though). You're right, it had a very bright and concentrated area of illumination but for the region that I dive in it really would be best suited as a backup light.

I just ordered the 12watt LED cannister. But it's back ordered. Should be here in a couple weeks. Can't wait!

I got mine last week....it's worth the wait!
