Getting back to the OP ... that's an awful lot of lead. I'm about the same weight you are (210 lbs), am 5'9" tall, wear a Bare 2mm neo suit with Santi 450 thinsulate undergarment. I'm using a Dive Rite XP with Worthington steel 100's, and 16 lbs of lead. And I could probably drop a couple lbs. Granted, Puget Sound isn't as salty as the ocean (lots of rivers dumping into our little fjord), but even diving in the Straits of Georgia this seems to be adequate lead.
Now, we're all different ... and you need what you need ... but 40 lbs of lead just seems way over what you should need, given the info you provided. My guess is that you may be trapping air somewhere ... either that or you're just so used to diving overweighted it somehow seems normal to you ...
