I have yet to see anyone mention that they'd use silk as a 1st Layer for a drysuit. Silk is natural, sretchy, a natural insulator and wicks away moisuture, keeping you arm. I often use silk liners before I stack on the Merrino wool socks or before I put on a polyprop or fleece shirt. I'm just curious if there is a reason not to use silk with respect to diving?

Silk works fine. I use polyester, as it wicks and dries a little bit faster. Not that it matters much under a drysuit but that's what I have for everything else.

Absolutely not! Silk is great! I also use the poly stuff REI puts out. It's very light and VERY comfortable. I'm wearing the top in my avatar photo. Silk is a bit more fragile IMO
