Sipadan's barracuda gone?

A diving jounalist friend from Hong Kong e-mailed that he had heard the resident school of chevron barracuda have gone missing from Sipadan. Anyone heard if this is true or that they may have returned. It's a bummer if they're gone. Being inside the tornado in 1997 was a diving highlight.

I was in Sipadan last week. The group of barracuda I met was smaller, not forming "tornado". I saw only a Jack Fish tornado.
