Spear gun and pole spear as a self defense weapon?

I live in Perth, West Australia. I sleep with my door unlocked and in summer open. It's not the front door, but the gate to it is also unlocked. My guns are kept in a safe and I use them for feral cats or goats when I go camping. I hope I never have a home invasion, they are very rare here and I suspect a lot of the ones that happen are because a drug deal has gone bad. If someone did want my money..I'd hand it over. As the old saying goes, money can be replaced, life can't. A few months ago there was a murder a hundred metres from my house. The woman was murdered by her next door neighbour. I doubt that in a situation like that, no amount of guns would have saved her.
