Is there anything I can do that will help out with the condition I get as I rise to the surface after diving. My mask is only as tight as it needs to be to keep water from flowing in and I equallize the pressure in the mask by expelling from my nose every other breath as I descend. Yet, for the most part I always have a mask of blood coming from my sinuses when I get to the surface. No pain is associated with it and it feels like drainage. A quick blow of the nose clears it out. And generally, it gets better(?) the more I dive in one day. The first dive is usually messy while the second and third are much less.

This happened to me one time and it was freaky having a mask half full of blood. Mine took place like this.....on descent I experienced a very sharp pain between my eyes on my middle brow. I worked up and down for several minutes to clear this pressure but couldnt do it. I eventually ended the dive. The surface revealed all of the blood. Knowing that I had to dive again the next am I went hope and hit the Flonase and Allegra. The next am I felt a slight pressue while descending but was able to clear it and had an enjoyable dive. My point with all this is that for me and my experience....I firmly believe it was allergies and I now take some kind of decongestent every am on days I know I will be diving. JMHO:)

That happened to me on my first open water dive. I did not experience any discomfort and was carefull on my descent/ascents. I didn't even know there was anything wrong until my dive buddy told me there was blood in my mask. My instructor told me this was common with new divers. My situation got worse and I later found out that I had the beginning of a sinus infection. I consulted with an ENT physician who was also a diver. I ended up having surgery on my sinuses, since then I have had no problems what so ever. I would advise seeing an ENT physician for a check up. Good Luck.

I had the same problem too... I used to have blood in my plagm until my last dive trip... the blood seems to be flowing like it's free... even when I went down to 5m. Think I bust one of those veins/blood vessel during my first dive when i blow my nose too hard. been taking Zyrtec pior to the dive but i don't think it has anything to do with the blood. I will be seeing an ENT specialist soon. But the blood did freak me out.
