Chiefland Mayor body recovered
LEVY COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The body of the Chiefland Mayor Mathew Teal Pomeroy, who has been missing since Friday, was recovered Sunday morning by a joint search effort on the Suwannee River.

Mayor Pomeroy was reported missing after he failed to return from an afternoon dive in the area on Friday.

The 42-year-old was located near Usher Landing by Levy County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) personnel.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office, along with dive teams from Alachua and Citrus counties and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, worked with the FWC during the extensive search.

The victim was taken to the Gainesville Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
