dt,

If asked 4 years ago, the answer would have been yes, mainly spearfishing and freediving. The Blue Wild got it's start along side the 2006 Nationals Tournament, where Sheri Daye won the women's championship.

Sheri is the founder of The Blue Wild and one of the most versatile divers I know - besides freediving and spearing she's an avid scuba diver, tech all the way to Trimix, a shell collector, wreck diver, oil rig diver, and a budding videographer.

Her words: "The Blue Wild is much more than a spearfishing event.... we have photography, videography, lobstering, scuba, pure freediving.....there were sessions on these topics last year and will be even more again this year. The exhibitors are from many areas other than spearfishing.....we have marine artists, dive safety organizations, boating industry experts, scuba gear manufacturers and retailers, photographers, videographers, etc." Sheri Daye

As many of you may know, Ocean Fest is not happening this year in Ft Lauderdale, and The Blue Wild is stepping up to fill the void!

A look at the forming pages of speakers & workshop presenters backs that up... to name a few: Mote Marine shark expert Dr Jose Castro, artists Cary Chen, David Worth & Pasta Pantaleo; DAN's Dr. Neal Pollock, IANTD Chairman of the Board, Tom Mount; Lt. Dave Bingham of the FWC, non-spearing freedivers Kirk Krack, Mandy-Rae Cruickshank & Julie Richardson.

And there are a bunch of us like Sheri who have multiple interests besides spearfishing.... Pipin Ferreras, Rob Torelli, Manny Puig, Chip Bissell, Dave Earp and many more to come.

** I can't say who yet... but one of the world's most famous underwater film makers just came aboard! **

A few of the manufacturers of other than spearfishing gear, so far: Zeagle, Mares, Armor, Costa del Mar sunglasses, Realsea wetsuits, and many more big names are in the works.

Some of the diversified exhibitors & retailers: Bass Pro, Force E, E-Searider bean bags, Wetwear Custom Wetsuits, Scubaboard, Austin’s Diving Center, Scubasworld, and many more soon.

Hope to see lots of you there! The Blue Wild Spearfishing Seminar and Expo

Thnx for the info. Are you sure about Ocean Fest? I have been trying to confirm this but am running into a brick wall.

Ocean Fest 2009 was cancelled due to construction and rescheduled for this year.

The City is unable to give me an exact construction schedule, but has indicated that there is a high probability that construction at the show site will be underway during the scheduled dates of Ocean Fest. Based on this fact, and the lack of other suitable venues, I feel I have no alternative but to cancel this year's event and reschedule for April 16, 17 & 18, 2010.

Hopefully this information is still valid.

From the Ocean Fest Website:
Unfortunately, we were recently advised by the City of Fort Lauderdale that there are issues with our preferred location. We are working to find another suitable location for the show. We'll update this web site when we have news to announce.

The USCG will be running a search & rescue exercise right behind the Marriot Hotel on the beach... awesome!

Rob Murphy and FWC officer Dave Bingham will be speaking about dive flag awareness!

Looking forward to Stan Waterman's presentation!

And there are lots of new areas like the film festival with Stan Waterman & Rob Torelli, Dr. Castro, Manny & more for the shark gig, presentations by boating experts, deep scuba, commercial deep diving, wreck specialists... way cool!

And lots of the previous speakers are back, like Kirk and Mandy, Dan MacMahon, Art Pinder, Del Wren, Pipin Ferreras and Daryl Wong of course, and many more!

I'll see you all there!

Chad
