muzikbiz- what's the name of the documentary?

This Is Your Ocean - SHARKS It's the most up to date shark documentary, and it's actually much more than that. It's an amazing story, and features Wyland, Guy Harvey, and of course Jim Abernethy. Will make you more aware of the true beauty of our oceans and sharks. It might even bring a tear, as well. It is a great, great watch.

I have no doubts about the intellect and depth of, shall we say, personality in creatures like orcas or large sharks...I also have no illusion that they're as inherently human-loving as C. familiaris.

Doc,
This is a major area I was hoping to develop....And as a hunter, you would have seen that there is no love between the normal wild wolf you may come across in the woods, or with a totally and naturally wild dog---and a human. The natural reaction is likely to be fear first, followed by aggression or flight, depending on the behavior of the human. Flight would probably account for the typical response.

The public does not care all that much when they hear that ranchers out west are shooting all the wolves they can, because of the diet of the wolf conflicting with the agendas of the ranchers. There are always a few tree-huggers that throw a fuss about killing the wolves, or mounting their heads on a living room wall.... If there was a pack of wild dogs running around, you would get a larger public response to the eradication of such a pack, as the public feels more compassion for the dog--even a wild one, because they are "familiar" with the emotional bond potential of the dog....and that they "can" be loving....Killing an animal like this, will often engage the public.
While wolves could potentially act in the same loving manner, between the stories and the lore, and ignorance, the public at large won't consider the wolf to have a life that is WORTH as much as a dog....same for the Coyote.

And so we have these evil killing machines that so many of the public were introduced to in JAWS, and the public KNOWS that these eating and killing machines are evil.

If they hear of a commercial fisherman wiping out 100 of these monsters, or 1000, or 10,000 -- how upset will the public be?

If you hear of a rapist or a murderer, that gets killed by someone, do you even care about the "loss"? ( Well maybe you will, as an attorney, but pretend you are the public :) )

For the shark to have even a fighting chance --for the public to even remotely care about a shark slaughter by commercial guys, or a trophy kill by Great White HUnters.......the public needs to be exposed to this massive Cognitive Dissonance:
From the past---Sharks are evil killing machines---> and now-- A huge monster Tiger Shark that is friends with, and is playing with a human ( this as a message that has absolute credibility, so that the mental tension is high).

I want the public to see what they knew they knew, is WRONG, and everyone in the world has been making poor choices about this, due to this shared ignorance.
It is not the solution to the shark problem...it is a "baby step" toward management of a species ---and or, management of the various shark fisheries.

Ha ha.... Even Abernethy is not going to say that he can swim down on a new reef, see a 14 foot tiger, and automatically find that it will act in any particular manner--lot less in a friendly manner. They are wild, and with a new shark you have not seen before, you have no idea of what it's personality is like....But...there "is" a personality....beforehand, the public had no idea of a personality, or any brain power beyond what it takes to kill and eat.

The whole Emma thing only accomplishes one major issue--it shows that with enough of a duration of interaction( in this case, many years), the personality and intelligence is so high, that a bond of sorts can form--with the right shark personality, and the right human. It shows that this is NOT a "Thoughtless Killing Machine"...it is not a "monster". JIm does not tell people Emma is like a dolphin. Emma is still a shark....But a Shark "Is" very different from what we used to think that sharks were.

If the public can see that sharks, especially the big ones like Emma, are smart, that they do have real personalities....then reprehensible actions like Trophy Killings of a personality like Emma, should be culturally shunned behaviors.
That's what I am going for with this...
