We did not grab the Whale Shark!!!! we know better!!!!!! - it was a local guy from the "National Park Police"!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Shark was out of national park site actually!< park Police came, filmed with its own crew (the guy who grabbed the fin), and left.... Thats the kind of authority down here we have!!!! (Sucks).... The Shark i believe was lost as it was in waters 30 feet deep and like 40-50 feet away from the Purto Morelos dock.

As said: WE DID NOT GRAB THE SHARK!, but we did film the guy doing it!, I hope we can pass and show this to the guys in the park (who are them) and re-tell them not to do it as they lose their slime which protects them.

This was a fluke and people in there are not used to see this animals as it is a water channel which only gets narrower, tho local fishermen escorted the shark to deeper waters they said. No news in the papers about this...

ON OTHER NEWS: I would also like to tell people that the "cut" fin from the shark is a product of a propeller from a boat; we had several this year as soooo many tourists went to see them in all kinds of boats and the people in Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez dont seem to have the navigational training to do this so they get there and run over them!!!!. I would like to find a solution for this before its too late as water is getting contaminated by so many motors and propellers cutting their fins. I think jet propelled (jetski like) motors should be used but theres non here.... any ideas I can bring to the table to the gov here?????.

Doberman.

You have a natural treasure there. It'd be a shame to kill it off and drive it away, not to mention the loss to the world.

good luck

So relieved to hear that Dobie. Sorry for assuming you did. The way your post was written it appeared someone else filmed and it was you in the video, so my apologies for thinking you grabbed that big fella. Shame on the Park Police for doing it. That's ridiculous. Like I said before, thank you for sharing the videos. I have had the opportunity of snorkeling with them in Holbox and it was a beautiful experience. Feliz Navidad.

Thanks Jen!, no worries!!! You have to come down and see then near Isla Mujeres, like 15 nautical mils out, they are in Blue blue water!!!! not greenish like Contoy, this year we had over 200+ of them!!!!, The only thing I dont like it the hundreds of boats you see there... I feel they are harrased.... anyways come down and see them!!! its a different experience than Contoy...
FeLiZ NaViDad to you too!!!!!

Yes, Doberman was definitely not the one grabbing the whale shark. It was some local youth who didn't know better. (Apparently from the park police!) This shark was still quite the beautiful animal though, even with the damage to his fin.

Those eagle rays around the wreck were a real treat too. There were also southern stingrays around there as well. Definitely a dive worth doing.
