This is just a post that new divers may find interesting, then again maybe not. After roughly 150 dives and quite a variety of dives I might add, from cavern in central Florida, wreck and reef in the Keys and Roatan to plain old deep cold water up here in ManitobaI believe I think have finally figured out what I like diving the most.....all of it. But as far as equipment goes you can never really go by what someone says or what the latest hype or fad may be.
Since embarking on this journey I have gone through the typical BCD, Halcyon BP and wing, Scubapro's Xtek form and I have finally landed on the Diverite Transplate which I do like the best for a number of reasons but mainly how it feels and fits both in and out of the water.
Drysuits, from a Fusion Bullet to a Bare Tech Dry HD. Love the Bare, did not love the Fusion.
From Slingshot fins to F1's finally ending up with Slipstreams.
Masks, well after 6 different ones I did manage to wind up with one that performs the best for me, an Atomic. The model escapes me at the moment.
Regs, wound up with MK17's paired with G250V's, Tech 3's paired with XTX50's for stage/deco and a back up set of MK25's.
The point of this not to start a "this is better than that" but just to emphasize how personal dive equipment is and that man it can take a while and a lot of $$ if you just follow the crowd. Don't get me wrong, ask for advice, take advice but in the end come up with an intelligent decision much unlike what I did. It will be way cheaper in the long haul.
Anyhow, not much of a thread I guess as opposed to a gentle rant maybe as well as a little piece of advice.
Cheers!
