What light for night diving

I concur with the suggestion (for clear water reef diving) that you look into wide beam, not so bright lights. The center of the beam will be the brightest spot on which to focus, but the periphery of the beam will be fully adequate to see fish/invertebrates, etc., by movement or eye reflection. Then, you can focus on what you see.
 
One of the lights I own is an Mb-sub X1-VB (AA) its 250 lumens and has a beam that is variable from 3-25 degree, in 3 degree mode it packs an enormous punch and widens out to 25 max which is great for clear water where you dont want to scare the fish away. In the AA battery form it is very small. Highly recommend.
