Interesting turn this conversation took, and it reinforces something I think is important anyway, which is to take a rescue class if you are so inclined. The truth is, any OOA situation is a rescue and knowing how to deal with it and what comes along with it is always a good thing, irrelevant of hose length and gear setup.
 
I've taken classes with RICoder and dove with him several times...he's always making fun of my long hose...I think he's jealous.
