Hi all,
Theres is a 50min documentary on YouTube from the 90's called 'Lost Warriors of the South Pacific' which tells a great story of a US Douglas Dauntless dive bomber that was shot down in WW2 here in the Solomon Islands in 1943. They have tracked down the American pilot, brought him back and he has dived his own plane wreck 53 years later to the minute that he crashed. Its a very moving and interesting story and worth a look. The ending is great when he returns to the US and meets up with someone very special.
I was lucky enough to dive this wreck a few weeks ago. Its in about 13m of water in Rendova Lagoon and sitting on a very silty bottom, so visibility gets pretty ordinary pretty quick with a few divers in the water. My OW & AOW instructor is one of the main dive instructors in the doco (Dave Cooke) and is still diving in the Solomon's to this day.
If you have some time to spare, take a look. Hope you enjoy.
Cheers
Tony
