100% o2 at 70 ft is :( I hope what has been reported is wrong.

was he carrying another deco gas, as well?

the described dive is at the outer bounds the range that I would carry just 1 gas (50%), and I wouldn't carry just o2 for a dive like that. I hope he didn't think he was switching to 50% (70ft gas) when it was really oxygen. That would be most tragic.
I think the Capt explained that. He was carrying an O2 bottle in case he needed it but planned on using boat supplied O2. Other stops were to be on his back gas - air I believe.

Some might plan the dive differently, but I guess his plan could work.

I don't think that was reported at all. He got tangled, got out, got to 70 stop, then passed out., I'm sure more details will come, but sticking in ideas not reported causes confusion.

Understand the circumstances may not have allowed this. If they were ascending and the deceased went negative before the buddy realized and was on his way down - gas supplies and deco obligations may have not allowed him to follow his buddy, get a bag on him and send him to the surface. Instead of one dead diver we'd have two. I pray I never have the situation where I have to make that choice. We shouldn't be judging the buddy on his choice to survive.

Yeah I read that, my post was in response to "I got him but because of deco can't surface.. scenario" someone posted. But yeah in this case, as much as I hate to say it I would have let him go and save myself.

Just wanted to offer my sympathies to Capt Brian and your crew, it's always tough to lose a diver. The word around here is that he had not touched his O2, but that is coming through 3rd and 4th person. The original source being a LEO they say.
