Thanks SPT the lois Ann looks like a blast... Idk though the yukon looks kinda scary hows the vis usually on both?

The Lois Ann is a dive boat (Lois Ann Dive Boat). I certainly hope that it doesn't become one of the "attractions." When I dove it, the dive sites were on the Yukon, Ruby E, and the Navy Tower. The latter two sites are relatively shallow and make good second and third dives. The Yukon often has good vis 50ft+ at depth, but is often green on the surface.

So is the Yukon kind of creepy?

Creepy? Well a little. It is an artificial reef that was carefully cleaned and sanitized (doors welded open, and entrances cut) before it was sunk. However, it is a real wreck because the day before the big sinking ceremony, a storm sank it prematurely. It landed on its side so half of the carefully prepared entrances are pointing towards the sand.

However it was a warship and was designed to be intimidating. The deck guns were removed, but Hollywood props were put in their place. My photo of the "guns" are of these props. Fake as they are, they are still a little creepy.

Hmm so which one should i go on for my AOW dives next summer

They're all good dives. The Ruby has been down the longest and has so much growth on it it "looks like a float in the Rose Bowl Parade". The Tower is also well encrusted, and the structure makes a nice frame for photographing other divers, if you're into that. The Yukon is newer, but there is lot's of fish life. It was estimated that it would take 28 dives to see the whole ship, so you won't get bored.

Check out Dive Nav (e-Dive) as they have a simulator for diving the Yukon. Although I haven't tried it (I already spent WAY too much time on computers), they've done a great job with the Casino Point dive park.

Hi Dr. Bill,
just wanted to let You know that we are working on a revised version of the virtual HMCS Yukon that will allow "daylight penetration" ... basically we will allow limited penetration into those areas directly connected to an external opening.
We also just figured out a method to place metridium on walls, floors and ceilings .... so next version will have more marine life on it.
should have it in a month or so.

Best Regards,

AM
