A 27-year-old tourist from Tokyo was found dead in the water near Aharen lighthouse on Tokashiki Island, his diving gear mouthpiece detached from his mouth.

The 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters is investigating the cause of death in the incident that claimed the life of a company employee from Tokyo, Kenichiro Saito. Saito was visiting Tokashiiki Island as a tourist, and began diving with one guide and seven customers at mid-morning.

Saito’s body was found beneath the water, about 900 meters from the lighthouse. He was found about 10:50 a.m., and pronounced dead an hour later at a local medical office. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine cause of death.
