Just returned from an Alaska cruise with my family, and took the opportunity to do dome diving while in Ketchikan.
Bringing dive gear on a cruise ship truly is a pain in the butt, but we were lucky enough to be in a suite, so the cabin was large enough to accomodate it once I managed to lug it as far as Seward.
Wished I could have done more diving along the way, but the July 4th holiday and some higher altitude excursions limited my dive opportunities to Ketchikan.
Many friends thought I was nuts, but the water was actually much warmer that what I am used to in Lake Huron.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the marine life, and was amazed by the size of the many urchins and various species of starfish.
Managed to see a wolfeel on the first dive and a GPO on the second, in addition to all of the rockfish, california sea cucumbers, nudibranchs, etc.
I am definitely NOT a photographer, but I did bring a small (and cheap) camera along. Unfortunately, I had some camera problems on the first dive, and I missed the picture of the wolfeel (I'll have to come back out to the PNW!). I have attached links to a few other pics I managed.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the trip, and am quite envious that you guys get to dive this way all the time!
Hopefully, any others planning a visit or trip out to the PNW will take the opportunity to check out the wonderful diving opportunities!
