The thermal protection is minimal, but they do provide protectioon against abrasions, fire coral, stingy things and the direct rays of the sun if you're at the surface.

Just a little more thermal protection than a lycra skin, but not much.

If you go to use it as an under layer with a full suit it is a barrier, unlike a Lycra dive skin. Since it is a barrier it will limit water exchange against your skin and be of real value.

I would imagine getting it all on might be a bit of a challenge. However, I have never tried it so i am just speculating. Do you do this? it seems that if you could get it on it may be a great idea.
