twice in the past month my trio has not gone into dive mode on the first dive of the day. On all subsequent dives for the day it worked normally. Thoughts please?

I don't have a Nitek Trio. But I do have a Zeagle N2ition 3, which is essentially the same beast. Based on my experience with it, I would say it is possible that you're battery is starting to hit the threshold of being too low to go into dive mode. When the battery hits a certain level the computer won't go into dive mode only gauge mode. If it happens again, take a look at the display and see if the battery indicator is flashing at the top of the screen. I bet it is. Try swapping the battery.
