According to the DSS website, the Kydex plate is fine for doubles. I'm sure Tobin knows what he's talking about. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it. It's a long story, but I need a light plate for a very negative doubles rig. The spine on my AL plate is too deep, so the tanks never reach the plate. I have a Kydex plate, which is flatter. It would solve the problem, if it can carry my 76lb rig.

My wife dives doubles with a kydex back plate, the plate handles the weight just fine walking around (shore entry for example). Her rig is not as heavy as your 76 lb. rig, so I can't comment on that.
The kydex plate should be fine due to the reinforced center and the slots also being reinforced.
